TabChaos Chrome Extension

1. Introduction

Thank you for using TabChaos. TabChaos helps you organize open browser tabs into meaningful groups (for example by domain, intent, deep work, or AI-assisted classification).

This policy explains what data TabChaos accesses, how it is used, and how long it is retained.

2. Data Collection and Use

2.1 What TabChaos Accesses

To group your tabs, TabChaos reads information from tabs in your current Chrome window, including:

• Tab title
• Tab URL and hostname
• Pinned status and current tab group state

This access is used only to compute tab grouping and update Chrome tab groups on your device.

2.2 Local Settings and Local Logs

TabChaos stores extension preferences in chrome.storage.sync, such as selected strategy, auto-organize, and include-pinned settings.

TabChaos also stores temporary debug logs in chrome.storage.session. These logs can include event metadata such as tab titles, sanitized URLs (origin + path), and group actions. Session logs are local to your browser session and can be cleared from the extension UI.

TabChaos does not require account sign-in and does not intentionally collect identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number, or physical address.

3. Permissions Justification

3.1 tabs

Used to read open-tab metadata and apply grouping actions (group/ungroup tabs).

3.2 tabGroups

Used to create, name, color, and update tab groups in Chrome.

3.3 activeTab

Used for active-tab interactions initiated by the user from the popup.

3.4 storage

Used to save your extension preferences and temporary debug logs locally in Chrome storage.

3.5 Host Permission *://*/*

Needed so the extension can evaluate URLs across the sites you have open in order to group tabs consistently.

4. Data Sharing

TabChaos does not sell or rent your data.

External sharing occurs only when AI Smart mode is used, where tab metadata is sent to the configured AI provider for classification.

5. Data Retention

• Settings: Stored in chrome.storage.sync until changed or removed by uninstalling/clearing extension data.
• Debug logs: Stored in chrome.storage.session for the current browser session and can be manually cleared in the popup.
• AI requests: Processed by the external AI provider under that provider's retention and privacy policies.

• Disable grouping at any time in the popup.
• Avoid AI Smart mode to keep all grouping logic local.
• Clear logs from the popup.
• Uninstall the extension to remove stored extension data.

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. The "Last Updated" date will reflect the most recent revision.
